Should you bring your kids at a wedding ?

Everytime I meet my clients, I ask them how many kids will be at their wedding.

Thinking about it, I wonder if this is cultural, I havn’t checked that when learning about american weddings.

The amount of kids at a wedding gives you a pretty good idea about how the party will go.

So, should you bring your kids with you at a wedding ?

Even if I’ve noticed that the festive mood could be really different, depending if guests bring their kids or not, I’d have to confess that I recently had to change my mind about this.

And that’s what I’m going to tell you about today 🙂

As you may already know, I’ve been a nanny for years and I love kids

(especially when they are not crying) 🙂

I’m among the people who babbles when seeing a baby.

and always enjoy meeting a kid totally dressed at a wedding 🙂

But indeed, when there are kids at a wedding, it’s more difficult for parents to enjoy their time with other guests, and stop focusing on the logistic : diaper, bottle, beeb, naptime or snacks, but also, the urge to have a backpack full of crayons, dinosaurs and the fear of “oh no, we forget her barbie dolls !”

(should I mention that without kids around, you can allow yourself one or two more cocktails) 🙂

You get my point: bringing your kids with you at a wedding can prevent you from enjoying the party full time, and may also not be that much fun for your kids either, even if the bride and groom hired a baby sitter (or 2!)

And then….

I took photos at Xuanlan and Antoine’s wedding, and it totally made me see things from another perspective 🙂

2 people in love, a pretty castle in South of France ( château de Planèze, near Rodez), a great DJ,

but also, and that’s what’s interesting:

130 guests + 30 kids !

So far, there was about 10 to 15 kids at weddings where I’ve been a photographer, and that was already a lot.

To give you an idea, here is the kid’s dinner table, or should I say : kid’s tableS 🙂

Deciding, or not, to bring your kids at a wedding is choosing to bring a totally different energy to the celebration that day, and also a little parallel universe.

And here is what I’ve seen with my camera that day 🙂

There was the ones, too shy, who wanted to stay with their parents at first…

The ones trying to understand the grown-ups 🙂

The one who understood 🙂

The ones having fun 🙂

And the others… well, enjoying a bit less the party 🙂

The ones trying to understand the seating arrangements 🙂

The ones making new friends 🙂

And the one annoyed by the noise ! 🙂

Kids at wedding

As you can see, bringing your child to a wedding can make the day definitely more interesting and dynamic too.

As for me, I have to say that I’ve loved spending my day with them 🙂

Did I manage to convince you ? 🙂

A week-end in Brittany

A friend of mine and I wanted to escape a bit from busy Paris, craving to breath some fresh air without spending a huge amount of money….

We had a look at the prices of flights, trains and rental car to see if we could escape on a roadtrip for a day or 2, being near the ocean or the sea would be a bonus….

I then realised that I had a friend in Concarneau, that I havn’t seen for a while (since she left Paris to moove back there, few years ago…)

and here we were : booking a train to Brest for 60€ roundtrip, and a rental car for 2 days 100€, we’ll sleep at my friend’s place, and I’ll knit while in the train ! 🙂

And that’s then in August then, that I get the chance to discover Brittany ! 🙂

Concarneau bord de mer-3

We were Lucky enough to be there, in Concarneau during the music festival festival des filets bleus,so I get the chance to admire traditional Britan outfit wore by “bigouden”  🙂 <3

And listen to traditional music 🙂

Joueurs de biniou à Concarneau

but most of all, to finally get to taste the very famous desert Kouign Amann  and well, in case you don’t know me, you have to know that I had 2 of them ! (because it was sooooooooooo good !) 🙂

So here is a good reason to discover Brittany 🙂

Kouign Amann-2

Concarneau is a lovely town, with an old historic district, I really loved it 🙂

The next day, we drove to Pointe du Raz, and we were lucky enough to have a beautiful weather, quite sunny but also really windy. No rain ! which blows up all my clichés about Brittany 😉

Pointe du Raz-5

Pointe du Raz-3

I felt in love with these tiny purple flowers that were all over the ground there 🙂

Pointe du Raz

We then drove along the coast a little bit…

and stop at  Locronan, to have lunch. Locronan is one of the most prestigious (historically) place in Brittany, beautiful old architecture, very preserved, I loved it ! 🙂

And then we quickly drive back to Brest where our train back to Paris was waiting for us.

We stayed in Brittany for a bit more than 24hours, but this escape was exactly what we were looking for.

It gave me the chance to discover a region I didn’t know, but that I feel I could totally fall in love with.

And it costs us about the same price as an evening in Paris drinking cocktail + restaurant + fancy dessert !

so I’LL HAVE TO BE BACK THERE ! 🙂 (but maybe stay a little bit longer this time, in order to take more photos)

🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

So, did you like this ?

Visiting Mont St-Michel in July

July is probably the worst time of year to go to Mont St-Michel, because there are so many tourist from all around the world.

But when you don’t get the chance to have a car everyday, you still enjoy the drive no matter what, and each chance to go for a roadtip is a chance I catch ! 🙂

And when another photographer friend is willing to join me on that adventure, there is just one thing left to say : LET’S GO ! 🙂

This year, we’ve decided that we won’t spend Bastille day (French National Celebration day, on July 14th) in Paris, surrounded by people from the army, on the Champs-Elysées (or watching the parade on TV).

6am let’s leave Paris… Music Playlist is set up, breakfast treats are packed and Let’s goooooooooooooooo !!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

Our goal ? make it there for 10.30 !

And it’s crazy how just getting a bit away from Paris, gives you the opportunity to see other landscapes and horizons…

Mont St Michel

Time flies, and in between 2 conversations, we’re almost there… from far away I can almost guess the silhouette of this magnificent place, and that beautiful weather makes us even more excited to reach our destination ! 🙂

Mont St Michel - paysage

Far away, I saw sheeps, so cute, and I had to get that postcard like vision ! 🙂

Mont St Michel agneau pré salé - paysage
A walk in the middle of nowhere, trying to reach them… that feeling of space, with a little breeze in my hair…. it feels so good ! 🙂

Mont St Michel - coquelicots

And here we are, Mont St-Michel, I havn’t seen that place for quite a while… that gorgeous piece of ancient times, reminded me that I’m just a little human being 🙂

So, do you want to see what’s Inside? Here we go ! 🙂

🙂 🙂 🙂

Mont St Michel paysage

A visit to the abbaye, at the best time of the day : when the sun starts to be a pain on my skin (at noon), and tourist starts to feel hungry 😉

I’m always impressed by the gorgeous way the lights come in these old churches, making the place looking even more heavenly and divine…

And here we are, outside… watching the horizon, I have a furious need to be there, in the middle, in the mud…

Mont St Michel Good Small-65

Put my feet in the muddy sand, and go and explore low tide, but these time without fearing what I’ve experimented at the Oregon coast…

I have to confess though that I’ve been a bit scared still… and although the feeling of the mud on my feet was great, the ground was not stable, and sliddy at some places (my camera gear was afraid too!)

But it didn’t prevent me from being silly ! 🙂

That roadtrip was so awesome that once back home, I left my friend drive, and tried to get some people smiling at the toll thing 🙂

It didn’t really work, but it’s fine with me, roadtrips are fun no matter what ! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Would you join me next time ? 🙂
